The Best Websites to Find Perfect Images for your Blog

Despite countless images available on the internet, it is not easy to find free images that are incredible and unique to use on your website or blog posts.

And with so many blogs and websites popping up every day on a particular subject, it gets harder to stand out among millions.

Soon the website with the better design, typography, usability, and the best images takes the lead.

Quality images indicate a greater concern with a design that conveys greater credibility, an essential relationship of trust between you and your visitors.

Here are 4 important reasons to use quality images on your website:

  1. To attract the attention and interest of your readers, even before they start reading your text.
  2. To hold people’s attention when reading through the content you have to offer.
  3. To strengthen or raise a point of view, argument, fact, opinion, or statement.
  4. To help keep your best posts and easily distinguishable from others.

Below is a list where you can find free images and paid ones to use on your website or blog posts.

Best places to find free images to your website

#1. PixaBay

Pixabay is maybe the best site to find free stock images for your blog or website. You can easily find the perfect image to fit in your blog posts.

#2. Pexels

After Pixabay, Pexels is my favorite place to find that perfect stock image for my blog.

#3. Creative Commons

On Creative Commons, you’ll find high-quality images from free sites like Google Images and Flickr, without worrying about assignments and licenses to use them.

#4. Stock Vault

StockPhoto has a relatively small number of images, but it offers a higher quality of images.

Best places to find paid images to your website

#5. Shutterstock

Shutterstock is my favorite place to find paid images for websites or blogs.

#6. iStockPhoto

Very similar to Shutterstock, iStockPhoto has a huge base of high-quality images.

#7. Photodune

PhotoDune offer high-quality images for only $1.

#8. Big Stock Photo

BigStockPhoto offers a one-month free trial. It’s a great alternative if you want to test their services before spending money.

Where to edit your images for your blog

Finding the perfect image is the first step. Now you need to make your images even more attractive. You can cut the image, add effects, and mainly use texts to make them better.

I selected below two great options that let you edit your images online, without having to download any paid software.

#PicMonkey

With PicMonkey you have several options to make your images better. You can cut, add effects or text in your images.

#Pixlr

As good as PicMonkey, Pixlr is another option to edit your images.

Final Words

Content is king, but your images can have a good impact on your blog posts quality, so always remember to use high-quality images on your content.

For obvious reasons the best images are paid, but it doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to find high-quality images that are completely free.

Top Blogging Tips for Beginners: How to Skyrocket your Blog

Somebody told you that you can make a lot of money blogging, so you decided to start your own blog?

It’s true that you can quit your job and pay your bills exclusively with the income from your blog and even become rich.

But the untold reality is that making a lot of money blogging can be:

  • Difficult
  • Overwhelming
  • Confusing
  • And can be very frustrating…

Blogging is an A – Z thing, so it will require that you learn many skills that are not difficult to master, but it will take some time.

Below, I’ll give you the best blogging tips and tricks for beginners (and even for some experts):

#1. Use a self-hosted Platform

This is a super basic and obvious blogging tip, but you need a self-hosted website to be successful and earn money. I still see some people starting a blog on a free platform and this is one stupid mistake that you must avoid.

What is a self-hosted blog?

You can start a blog for free using a platform like Blogger, Wix, Squarespace, but this is a big mistake. For countless reasons is not recommended for a professional blog.

First, because your domain name will be something like “myblog.wix.com” (which sounds horrible), second because of the lack of customizations, and for many other reasons that will not help you.

How to start a self-hosted blog?

First, you need to choose a domain name. A domain name is basically the name of your blog/site and it’s by your domain name that people will find your site.

After that you choose your domain name you need to pay for hosting – it’s very cheap so don’t worry.

If you still haven’t started your blog, I recommend BlueHost – it’s only $50 per year and you have reliable and fast hosting. If you don’t know how to configure your blog, you can check this article about how to start your blog.

#2. Get Organized or you’ll Fail

Did you hear somewhere from a guru that you can make a lot of money blogging only 4 hours per week??

Sorry to disappoint you, but you’ll never earn money blogging only 30 minutes per day on weekends or in your free time…

Some big blogs that already have tons of traffic from Google and search engines can “work on auto-pilot” and their owner can maintain their blog making money with just a few hours per week.

But until you reach this point you’ll have to learn some skills:

  • Writing great content.
  • Email marketing.
  • Graphic design.
  • Content and sales marketing.
  • Social Media.
  • SEO.
  • And a few others.

So can you see why you need to have a lot of free time (at least initially)?

Now you can see why you need to be organized.

In the beginning, until you get some traction you’ll need to work at least 20 to 40 hours per week if you dream about making 4 or 5 figures per month.

Do you have a full-time job or have kids to take care of?

It will no be easy to blog, but you’ll need to be very organized and find time to blog.

Below are some blogging tips for beginners to find time to start blogging and making money:

  • Reserve some time every day to blog, no matter if it is 2 hours or only 30 minutes, try to make it a habit.
  • Focus on things that matter, designing a beautiful logo or finding the “perfect” WordPress theme will not make you rich.
  • Avoid procrastination at all costs, from my own experience is very easy to get 20 minutes distracted watching a funny YouTube video instead of doing a boring task on your blog.

You need to create a to-do list that will have 1 or 2 important tasks for your day that will have a big impact on your blog.

Is creating a new blog post?

Getting more visitors to your blog or writing a new email to promote your product?

Add that important task to your to-do list and FORGET everything else.

Or you’ll waste months and months working on your blog for nothing.

#3. Be Persistent and never Give Up

When I started blogging I read tons of articles with “top blogging tips”, but none of them will talk about the cold truth…

Make money blogging is totally different than working as an employee…

When you are an employee you’ll be trading hours for cash. But with blogging is different, you’ll earn money only when you make a sale or when you perform an action that will result in getting paid for it.

Unfortunately to grow a blog takes time… I started making some significant money only after 12 long months of blogging.

And why it takes so long to grow a blog?

The main reasons are competition and “you don’t know what you don’t know“.

One of the most important parts of a blog is getting a lot of traffic (visitors to your blog). And there are tons of blogs out there, many of them launched many years ago.

So when you launch a blog you’ll be competing with at least hundreds and even thousands of other blogs.

All of them fighting for your attention on Search Engines and Social Media sites.

That’s why growing a site is a task that takes time.

So if you don’t see the results that you imagined after 6 or even 12 months, don’t give up!

Check if you are not making any big mistakes and keep working that sooner or later, the results will come.

#4. Master one or two traffic sources

Getting traffic (visitors to your website) is one of the most difficult but extremely important factors for a successful blog.

You are competing with many old sites ranking in the top spots of search engines. But getting thousands of visitors to your blog still is possible if you follow the right strategies as I’ll explain below.

The good news is that you can find many places to promote your blog and articles:

  • Google
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Linkedin
  • Pinterest
  • Reddit
  • YouTube
  • Forums
  • Many other places.

Above I mentioned a bunch of places where you can promote your blog. However, I would never recommend that you try to be on every platform.

Instead, you only need to be 100% focused on only one or two big platforms. And it will be more than enough to get the traffic you need to get readers and sales.

What are the best places to get traffic to your blog?

The best traffic sources will depend based on your niche – what you blog about.

But for 90% of bloggers with no doubts Search Engines (Google, Bing) and Pinterest are the best.

And why not Facebook or Twitter?

Because of the behavior of people using these platforms.

Everybody uses Facebook, even your grandma. But here is the point, people go on Facebook and other social networking to spy on other people’s life, watch funny movies, share content and have fun.

It’s VERY difficult to get people of these platforms.

People don’t go on Facebook or Twitter to read articles or blogs (at least the majority).

Here’s why Google and Pinterest are the best:

Google is a search engine and Pinterest while it has some social elements it is also a search engine.

At both sites, people are using these sites to look for information. Users also go on Youtube to search for information, but it’s very hard to make people click on your website link because of the layout YouTube uses and the behavior of people.

On Pinterest people are actively looking for new ideas, recipes, “how-to” articles, etc. At Pinterest, people basically can only make a search by typing the keywords and click on Pins with an URL.

Almost the same thing happens to Google.

Ranking on the first page of Google is hard

Unfortunately, to get traffic from Google you need to rank on the first page. And those spots are taken from big or old websites. But there are still plenty of keywords that are not so difficult to rank and drive traffic to your website.

You’ll find tons of blogging tips (from other sites) saying that you must master SEO (search engine) if you want to get traffic. Although Google is the biggest source of traffic for many blogs, my advice is that in the beginning, you focus on another platform that is much easier to rank – Pinterest.

So for the first 6 months, don’t worry if you are not getting tons of traffic from Google.

Why I recommend Pinterest

For many people, Pinterest is social networking. But if you know how this platform works, you’ll notice that it has some elements of a social networking site (followers), but it’s mainly a visual search engine.

Try to imagine a mix of Instagram with Google.

There’s a big search box where you can look for information and Pinterest will display Pins where you can click and you’ll be redirected to a website with the information you were looking for.

#5. Write Useful Content Frequently

Have you heard that “content is king”?

Driving traffic to your blog and writing high-quality content is one of the most important factors for success.

Why do you need to write useful and high-quality content?

For 2 simple reasons:

  1. Because if your content is of low quality, people will leave your blog and search for the information they were looking for on your competitors. With no readers, there are no email subscribers, no sales, and no money.
  2. High-quality content is a must if you want to get traffic from Google and social media sites. A short article of 200 words will never drive tons of traffic because it’s not deep enough to answer the doubts and problems your readers are looking for.

But it also makes no sense to spend 2 weeks writing a top 5000 words article if you don’t promote it the right way.

I recommend that initially, you write an article that is 1000 to 2000 words long and improves it at the moment you start getting more traffic.

Also, blog titles must be Eye-Catching to attract people to read your blog posts.

#6. Build your email list

This is also one of the most important blogging tips.

If you dream to make a lot of money, building your email list should be one of your most important tasks.

How to build your email list?

First of all, you need an email marketing provider. The best one is Aweber because it’s simple and easy to use, even if you are a beginner.

If you join Aweber, the first month it’s free, then it will cost only $19 per month.

Answering the question, the most effective way to start building your email list is by giving away for free something that your readers will find valuable.

For example, if you build a blog in the health/lose weight niche, you can give away a free PDF guide about the best exercises and food to lose weight. To get the free PDF guide, your visitors need to enter their email addresses.

It’s hard to get email subscribers if you just put a simple form saying “sign up to receive my newsletter”… Nowadays people don’t give their email addresses so easily.

To build a huge base of email subscribers you need to give for free something valuable. It can be a free guide, a free trial of a product or service, video tutorials, etc. Try to be creative.

Other reasons to build an email list

There are several reasons to build your email list. But getting the email address of your visitors is a great deal because you can contact them at any time you want.

An email list is great to build relationships with your readers, increase trust and guess what? Sell products to them.

Getting email subscribers is the most crucial step to make money with your blog. The more subscribers you get, the more money you’ll make.

#7. Monetize your blog with Affiliate Programs

Did you start a blog to make money, right?

This is the most interesting but the most difficult part. You can find tons of blogging tips about how to make money with a blog.

And many will say that you just need to get traffic and use a program like Google Adsense. So you just need to make your visitors click on these ugly ads and you’ll make money.

Seems an easy task, but it’s not.

Making money with the advertising model is very difficult, below are a few reasons why it’s a bad idea:

  1. You’ll get paid only $0.10 to $1 per click.
  2. You literally need tons of people visiting your site.
  3. Getting a huge amount of visitors is very difficult.
  4. The average CTR (click-through ratio) is ridiculously low between 1% and 2%.
  5. Ads are an ugly thing.

Concluding, to earn a least $1500 per month with ads, you’ll need a minimum of 1,000 daily visitors and there are better ways to make money.

The affiliate model

This is the best way to make money. The affiliate model is when you promote someone’s else product and you get paid a commission from it. Usually, you’ll earn anywhere from 10% to 75% of the original price.

You can go on Clickbank or ShareASale and find countless programs to promote.

Alternatively, you can create your own programs and stay with 100% of the profits. But it will require a lot of hard work to create your own products. So I don’t recommend it for beginners.

You’ll use your email list to promote your affiliate offers (or maybe your own products). It’s only 5 simple steps if you see this graphic, but of course, there are countless tasks that you must master inside each of these steps.

But this is essentially the most profitable way to make money with your blog.

#8. Set Realistic Goals

When I started this blog, my initial goal was to earn $100 per day after 6 months. But it took me over 2 years to achieve this goal.

High expectations = to higher frustrations.

So never put unrealistic goals like “I plan to make $10k per month after 3 months”

Blogging is a marathon, not a sprint. Work hard and sooner or later you’ll reach your goals.

#9. Avoid Website design mistakes

Content is king but the design of your site is the queen.

Would you read a 2500 words article with a small font? Or read a site with a black background and white font color?

Another big mistake is adding several sidebar and widgets to your site.

The point of having dozens of widgets or links at the sidebar can confuse your readers and even hurt your rankings on Google and make your readers abandon your site quickly.

#10. Add the right tools and plugins to your blog

There are many tools and WordPress plugins that you can’t live without.

However, instead of writing about them here, I’ll recommend that you read this article with the best WordPress plugins and this one with the best tools and resources for your blog.

Final Words

There are many other blogging tips for beginners that I could write here, but from my 5 years on this adventure, I’m sure that if you are a beginner, these blogging tips will make a huge difference to reach success and earn money.

My best blogging tip is to work hard and never give up.

Success takes time, but I bet with you that when you reach some success, you’ll have made the best decision in your life.

Essential Tools

#Wordpress

WordPress is the most popular platform for bloggers. From small bloggers to big ones, most of them are using WordPress. If you are a complete newbie, and you want to make money blogging, a self-hosted website with WordPress is a must.

Why WordPress is so good?

  • It’s 100% free to use.
  • Very stable and secure.
  • Infinite plugins and themes.
  • Many other reasons.

If you still don’t have a self-host blog with your own domain, you can check this step-by-step article and learn how to create your blog.

#BlueHost

You need good hosting for your blog. You don’t want to wake up and discover that your blog was down in the last 10 hours and that it was hacked. Also, a good hosting company will give your fast support when you have a problem.

If you are starting right I recommend BlueHost, it’s very cheap and trusted. Go here to get started.

#Aweber

There’s a very old phrase saying that “the money is in your email list”. And it’s absolutely true, you need to start an email list to make money.

This is one of the best blogging tools to make make money with your blog.

A few reasons to start your email list:

  • You can send an email to promote your articles.
  • You can send promotional emails to sell your products or services.
  • This is an asset that you own, it’s not like your Facebook fan page that can be closed at any time.
  • A long-term asset that can potentially make money for many years.
  • Many more.

Aweber is an easy-to-use email service with many features available. So go here and join now (the first month costs only $1.00).

#WordPress Plugins

There are countless WordPress plugins that are essential and useful for many reasons. I’ll not talk about them here, instead, I recommend that you check this article with the best WordPress plugins.

Traffic Tools

If you like it or not, you must drive visitors to your blog. Traffic is the oxygen of your blog…

No traffic = no email leads, no clicks, no sales.

With no doubt, for 99% of bloggers, Pinterest and Search Engines (Google, Bing) are the best traffic sources. Although for a new blog, it’s very hard to rank on Google, if you hate or love, you need this giant.

But here is where Pinterest comes… This visual search engine is easier to get traffic if you follow the right strategy and below is simply the best and unique tool you’ll need to get traffic on Pinterest.

#TailWind

TailWind is a must tool if you use Pinterest to get traffic to your site. TailWind is great for 3 main reasons:

  • Schedule your Pins automatically (save your precious time).
  • Advanced analytics and accountability, so you know what works or not.
  • Bribes: The best feature from TailWind, with tribes you can add your Pins on a group where users will share your Pins with a 1:1 ratio – meaning that you need to share one Pin from other members to get your Pins shared.

Writing Tools

#Grammarly

Even if you are the best writer in the world, sometimes you’ll write some words incorrectly.

And is funny when you write 1500 words articles, and after reading it 3x you think that your article is written perfectly with no grammar errors.

But after one month one of your readers found misspelled words…

Grammarly is a useful plugin that you can install on Chrome or Firefox and when you are inside your WordPress dashboard writing your blog posts it will check and mark incorrect words.

SEO Tools

#Ubbersuggest

As I said before you need a lot of traffic to your blog to make sales and money.

So learning SEO is fundamental and you need to make keyword research to find terms that are not so difficult to rank on the first page.

That’s why I love and recommend Ubersuggest. It’s the best free blogging tool for beginners when we are talking about finding the best keywords for your blog posts.

It’s not complex and easy to use. Simply type a keyword related to what you are writing and it will show you the average search volume for these keywords, as well as other related terms and difficulty level to rank these keywords.

Also by using Ubersuggest you can spy on your competitors to find what keywords they are ranking for and other important data.

You can type your domain name or your competitors to discover important information that will help you to rank better on search engines.

As you can see in the image above, if you type any keyword it will show related keywords, sites ranking on top, competition level, and other information.

#KWfinder

KWfinder is another important tool for SEO. It has many features like Ubersuggest. However it’s a paid tool, but it’s easy to use and will give you more extensive data and information than Ubersuggest.

#BuzzSumo

Do you need ideas about what to write? And to figure out what content gets more shares and better virality?

Simply go to BuzzSumo and type any keyword or any website URL from one of your competitors.

You’ll see the top 10 pages that are getting more shares on all the big social networks or the top sites with the most keywords ranking:

Unfortunately, the free plan is very limited, you only can see the first 10 articles that got more shares and use it 5x per day. If you want more detailed info you’ll need to pay a monthly or yearly fee.

In my opinion, you only need to upgrade if you are a professional blogger with a team writing tons of articles.

Free Stock Images

Beautiful images have the same importance of the words that you are typing. However, getting images to your blog using Google Images is a bad idea.

Instead, you can find professional and free stock images for your site. Below are 2 of my favorite sites to find high-quality images for your blog.

Pixabay: Tons of free images and all free.

Pexels: It’s like Pixabay, that’s why I’m also recommending this site.

Graphic Design Tools

#Canva

Thanks to Canva you don’t need anymore to pay for a design to create professional images. This is the tool that I use to create and edit all my Pinterest images.

With 20 minutes or less, I can create professional and beautiful images, no matter what type of image I need need.

#BeFunky

While Canva is an amazing free tool to create pretty images, I recommend BeFunky for simple edits like resizing, cropping, adding borders, touch-ups, converting png to jpg, and other simple edits.

#Optimizilla

Have you heard that the size of your images can make your site slow to load and hurt your rankings on search engines? Depending on how many images your blog has, images with big sizes can have a big impact on your site speed.

Here is the solution for this problem, using Optimizilla it’s a free web-based tool that allows you to easily upload images and compress them in seconds, drastically reducing the size of your images.

Analytics, Site Speed and Performance

#GTMetrix (Page Speed)

Is your site fast or slow to load? Having a slow website will make your visitors abandon your website and also can hurt SEO on your site. Nobody has the patience to wait for 10 or 20 seconds to wait for your site to fully load.

Many different things can make your site slow, and in some cases is not an easy and simple task to discover what is wrong. Sometimes you have tons of images with a big size, in other cases, you have some plugins installed that will cause slowness.

Thanks to GTMetrix you can figure out what is making your blog slow.

GTMetrix is a powerful application that will provide you with pretty detailed information on what’s wrong and how to fix it, even if you are not a tech expert.

#BrokenLinkChecker

Did you delete an old post or page that has linked to another page? If you did this you’ll have broken links and a “404 error” will appear.

This is not an urgent problem that needs to be resolved soon. But if you have too many broken links on your site (especially if you have been blogging for years). It can cause a drop in your Google rankings.

Getting traffic is not easy, so you should always avoid broken links.

And how to discover broken links?

If you have tons of pages, you obviously will not check one by one. Instead, you can visit BrokenLinkCheck and you just need to write your URL to display your broken links.

#Google Analytics

Google Analytics is one of the best free blogging tools that will show you a lot of info from your website:

  • What blog posts are getting the most traffic.
  • What are your main sources of traffic.
  • Whether your visitors are viewing your blog by mobile devices or desktop.
  • What country they coming from.
  • And many more.

Sign up for a Google Analytics account and get your unique tracking ID.

Google offers free guides and tutorials about how to use GA. Go to Analytics Academy and there you’ll complete courses to master this tool.

Final words

With no doubt, I could add tons of other resources and plugins, but in my opinion, above are those that are extremely essential.

Are there other blogging tools that are essential?

Of course, however, I tried to list only those that are really necessary for a beginner blogger.

The Best Tips to Easily Find a Perfect Blog Name

Are you struggling to find the perfect domain name for your blog?

Getting great blog name ideas for a brand new site is not an easy task as it looks like.

Years ago when I decided to start my first blog (it was a failure) I wasted over four long stupid weeks searching for a great domain name for my blog.

But after a few years and watching countless other sites with ugly or weird domain names getting successful, I learned that a sexy or perfect domain name is not so important to build a blog that makes money.

That’s right, as long that your domain name is easy to remember, it will not make any real impact on your success as a blogger or website owner.

Why your domain name is not so important?

As a new blogger, you will probably think that to succeed and earn money you may need a cute or fancy blog name to take your blog to the next level.

But trust me, the most important part of your blog is your content and how much traffic you’ll get with this content.

You can have the best domain name in the world, but if your content sucks, you’ll fail.

I already saw blogs with ugly or even stupid names making a lot of money.

A real-life example of an “exotic” domain name:

sensiblefunancials.com

The point is, you need an attractive domain name, but it won’t have any direct impact on your blog or success.

Ok, now you know that you don’t need a super attractive or a perfect name for your blog, so how to choose a good domain name without wasting so much time on it?

Before giving you tips about how to find a great domain name, I have to tell you one important thing:

Over 90% of good domain names you’ll imagine are unavailable

It will disappoint you, I know…

Before deciding the domain name for my blog, I did a list of blog name ideas and I had over a dozen cool and cute blog name ideas. But every time that I was going to check if that blog name idea was available I ended up frustrated because every good blog name was already registered.

The fact is that the internet is a huge place and for this reason, it will be hard to find a great blog name.

And even worse is that there are individuals making business just by buying up domain names that they believe will be very valuable enough to re-sell back to individuals at a much higher price.

But fortunately, if you follow some rules and tips that I’ll teach below, it will be relatively easy to find the domain name you want.

What is the ideal domain name for your blog?

There are some “essential rules” to follow when you are going to look for good blog name ideas:

Only use the .com domain extension

Have you noticed that the majority of all websites on the internet end with “.com“?

There are many reasons for choosing the “.com” extension. But the main reason is that this is the most trusted extension and 99.9% of internet users are used to type .com as the final extension.

So, ALWAYS pick a domain name with this extension.

Avoid at all costs registering a domain name with a “.net” or with a “.info” extension.

Avoid numbers or hyphens

Another rule to follow: your domain name is not that much important, but it doesn’t mean that you can register a domain name called “my-great-blog-007.com”.

A domain name with hyphens or numbers looks cheap, amateur, ugly, and hard to remember.

If you add hyphens or numbers you can easily find tons of available blog names, but as said above, there are solid reasons why bloggers are avoiding registering a blog name with these characteristics.

Avoid too much long domain name

Short and cool blog names are almost impossible to find available, for these reasons many bloggers (including me) are choosing longer names.

Domain names with 2 or 3 words are fine.

But a too much long blog name with over 4 or 5 words are not recommended.

Certainly, you can build a successful blog with a very long domain name. But it will be hard for your users to remember and if you want to create a strong brand for a site called something like “mytoomuchlongblogname.com”, it will be an impossible task.

Tips to choose a great domain name in 30 minutes

Honestly, there are no real secrets to find a cool blog name fast, but below are the best tips to get started:

  1. Try to find a domain name with 3 or 4 words. As said previously it will be almost impossible to find a short domain name.
  2. Use an online dictionary to get some other ideas, including synonyms.
  3. Add some exotic words.
  4. Use a combination of descriptive verbs with related adjectives.
  5. Consider including your name.
  6. Make a big list with names, adjectives, and verbs, and try to mix them to see what you come up with.

Although it’s not so simple and easy to find a great domain name, if you follow the tips above you can possibly get a domain name that looks like these real blog name ideas list below:

  • bobforher.com
  • makingsenseofcents.com
  • mywifequitherjob.com
  • thefunsizedlife.com
  • goodfinancialcents.com
  • sensiblefunancials.com
  • therichwallet.com (this site you are reading now).

For the last, if you need a tool to help you find great personal domain name ideas, you can check a domain name generator to help you find available domain names for your blog or website.

Conclusion

Lastly, I recommend that you don’t spend too much time worrying about finding the perfect domain name.

As I said several times in this article, if your domain is not perfect it won’t make any real impact on your success.

What you should really focus on is about writing good content and the best strategies to get traffic and sales from your blog.

The faster you register your domain name and start blogging, the faster you’ll succeed.

9 Amazing Reasons Why you Should Start a Blog

Are you thinking to start a blog but are not sure if it is worth investing your time blogging?

Although most people believe that blogging is just a hobby or a stupid thing, there are many amazing benefits that you can reach blogging.

You can make a real business from a blog at the same time you can treat it like a hobby.

Personally, I started blogging, first because of the possibility to make money without having a boss, and second because writing and other necessary skills to make a blog is something that I really enjoy.

By the end of 2016, I got fired from the job that I hated and since then I decided to focus 100% of my time and energy on my blog. And it was worth every second spent on it.

Blogging was the best decision I made in my entire life.

So if you planning to start your own blog but still is not sure if it will be worth it or not, below are 9 of the best reasons why you should start a blog.

And I bet with you that if you start your own blog and put in real effort, you’ll not regret this decision.

#1. You can earn money working from home

Everybody loves money right?

Getting a good job that you love and that pays well it’s not an easy task, even if you live in a rich country like the United States, just a few people are lucky enough to have their dream jobs.

But unfortunately, the majority of people will have to be “happy” with their current job.

Here’s is where blogging comes.

Blogging is not just a stupid hobby for teens as many may people think. There are countless topics that you can blog and many of them can be very profitable.

The top blogs can generate anywhere from $10,000 to $200,000 per month.

Could you imagine that after quitting your soul-sucking job and maybe 1 or 2 years later, you could be earning 5 figures per month?

That’s totally possible.

But blogging is not a “get rich scheme” and to build a successful blog, you need to make serious sacrifices in the beginning… Like staying 6 to 10 hours per day in front of the computer working on “this thing”.

Blogging like everything in life has good and bad times.

It’s not all sunshine, roses and pretty photos on amazing places like you could imagine – at least in the first 6 months, you’ll need to work really hard to see some results.

But after this phase, you’ll start enjoying all the benefits of a professional blogger.

So now If you think that blogging is for you and you haven’t started your blog yet, read this article to discover how to start and make money blogging.

#2. You can have time and location freedom

You’ll agree with me that the worst thing about having a “normal job” is working hard the entire year for having only 2 weeks of vacation per year.

Even worse than this is knowing that only when you are 65 years old you’ll have a lot of free time to travel and explore the world or simply have more free time to spend with your family or doing the things that you really love.

Do you want to wait to enjoy your life only when you’ll be old?

I wanted to enjoy my life at the moment that I’m still young, plus the fact that having more free time to decide how long my vacations will last is an amazing benefit that only blogging can give me.

Other benefits that only blogging will allow you:

  • Wake up and go to bed when you want.
  • Start working on your blog at the moment you want.
  • Work on the days you want
  • Drive without traffic.
  • Shop when the stores are empty.
  • Etc, etc.

Now you get the idea about what “location and time freedom” is.

You can design your day and your own hours, doing the daily activities at the moment you want and not depending on others.

#3. It’s the cheapest business you can start

Blogging it’s simply the best business model to get started.

You don’t need to invest your life savings to get started. It’s 100% common a traditional business requires a small fortune to get started. Even worse is not having the guarantee of success.

There are countless stories from people that saved money for many years to start their business just to fail one year later. In these cases many people get depressed.

On the other side, starting a blog is SUPER cheap.

How much money do you think that you need to start a successful blog?

One thousand dollars?

With $200 or even $100 you can start a profitable blog.

Basically here are the main costs of starting a blog:

  • $10 to register your domain name.
  • $10- $30 a month for hosting.
  • $19/month to start your email list.
  • A premium WordPress theme that costs around $50.

Definitely, there’s no other type of business that can make a lot of money with a start-up cost lower than this.

#4. Blogging will challenge you (and bring benefits)

As said above, starting your own blog is incredibly cheap. But it doesn’t mean that it’s easy. (otherwise, all bloggers would be rich).

The real cold reality is that making a blog successful that makes tons of money is difficult and in the end is like any other business and you must work hard to see results.

So if you are starting your blog today, don’t expect to be earning $10,000/month after only 3 months.

You must treat your blog like a real business to get there where you want.

Some big challenges that I faced before reaching success:

  • Created 2 blogs that failed before this one.
  • Created products that no one bought.
  • Spent over one thousand dollars on tools, courses, ideas, and crappy stuff that not worked.
  • I gave up my social life to work on my blog on the weekends.
  • Maybe the worst thing is trying to convince my family that making money with a blog is possible.
  • Many other challenges.

But you know what is the best thing about failing and failing again before reaching a lot of success?

You’ll bring a strong mentality, this means failing before reaching success will make a more positive person. And you’ll figure out that nothing is impossible.

Of course, I’m not saying that you must spend years failing before having success in your door…

Below I explain better why all these challenges will improve a lot your life and personality.

#5. Blogging will Sky-rocket your confidence

Here I’ll expand on the previous point.

Since we were kids we were taught from parents and from our society that failing is a bad thing and that we should avoid doing things that challenge us or that make us feel uncomfortable.

To build a successful blog you’ll have to learn to deal with fear of failure, negativity from your friends and family because they think that blogging is for fools.

But here is when the goods things will come; initially you’ll make mistakes, will have to deal with fear and many other negative emotions. But if you don’t quit blogging and persists, sooner or later you’ll find success and earn a lot of money in your pocket.

If you pass this initial step, blogging can change your life, because it will increase:

  1. Your patience.
  2. Your persistence.
  3. Will make you a positive person.
  4. Can drastically improve your self-confidence.
  5. Can help to build a strong mentality.
  6. Many other benefits.

#6. You’ll learn new skills

I have to admit that since when I started my first 2 blogs that failed, I hated writing.

First, because this blog is in English and this is not the native language in my country.

The second reason is that writing is not a simple task as many people may believe. This happens because you need to find ideas and topics to write about and even more difficult than this is that you need to condensate thoughts down into actionable information that your readers will understand.

And to be honest, even today, there’s a lot to improve on my writing skills.

But little by little things start getting easier. I remember that in the beginning writing a 500 words text was difficult and used to take 2 or 3 hours to write it.

Currently, I’m able to write around 2000 words in 4 hours or less depending of the topic.

I also hated creating and editing images. But now designing images is something that I enjoy.

Many activities that I hated in the past, now is a hobby for me.

And for this reason, blogging is a job that if you insist, it will “force” you to develop new skills.

The same principle can happen in other areas of your life, you’ll understand that learning a new skill is not so difficult as you could have imagined in the past.

#7. You’ll help people

The essence of blogging is creating valuable content that can solve problems. People are constantly looking for new ideas for new problems, trying to learn a new skill.

And here is why blogging can be so important, you aren’t just typing words about a topic that you like… Instead, if you are an expert in your niche and write valuable articles you are going to help people make their lives better.

For example, I only learned about investing money by reading blogs, and there are tons of other things that I learned from blogs.

And the same will happen if you start your own blog.

If you have a blog about finance, you can help people increase their income, save money, and in many cases even help people quit their jobs and live from the profits from their investments.

But it’s important to have in mind that while you may start a blog just to make money, the purpose of your blog is to serve others by helping them to solve their problems.

#8. You can be your own boss

Yes, you can be your own boss. But there’s one big downside: you are completely responsible for generating your own paycheck and like any other business, there are risks involved.

Not all bloggers will become rich. And the initial stage of blogging can be frustrating and even painful.

You are 100% responsible for doing the tasks that will generate money for you. And to get to the stage of making real money with your blog, it will require dedication and hard work.

But when you work hard and get in the stage of making money from your blog… Well, I don’t need to repeat the points above. Just remember the main benefits:

  • Financial freedom.
  • Time and location freedom.
  • The ability to plan your day, the way you want.

#9. Blogging can create other income opportunities

As said before, if you start blogging, you can develop several new skills, improve your writing, help increase your self-confidence, and many countless other benefits.

And guess what?

All these new skills can help you create new income opportunities, maybe another blog in a different niche, create a new service or product to sell, or even creating a new revolutionary project.

Once you find success in one area and learn new skills, it gets much easier to leverage the growth of a new project or business. It can help you to open doors for uncountable new areas in your life.

Conclusion

I can definitely say that blogging is not just a hobby,  but it’s an activity that can generate a big extra income, maybe enough to quit your job and live a lifestyle that your friends will envy.

And also can improve many of your personal qualities.

Still, have not started your blog?

Make Money Blogging: How to Earn over $5,000/month

Do you want to quit your job, make money online and live the life of your dreams?

Certainly, this is not easy but completely possible if you follow the right strategy.

Blogging changed my life and now I’m making several thousand dollars online “working” only a few hours per day in the comfort of my home.

And do you know what the best part is?

You also can start a blog and make a lot of money online, doing something you love.

And no, you don’t need advanced skills or many years of expertise

But yep, It will require that you put in serious efforts for many months, but this is nothing compared to the benefits that you’ll get when your blog starts generating passive income through ads or sales.

Another amazing advantage of creating an online business is that, unlike a traditional business, you don’t need a huge budget to get started.

You can start a website that makes a lot of money investing less than $200, not a small fortune like a traditional business.

So how you can start making money blogging?

The first essential (and obvious) step to make money blogging is to create your own blog.

And to create your blog you’ll need a domain name (your site’s name), for example: “mywebsitename.com” and you need a company that will host your website.

The website hosting company I use and recommend

There are countless hosting companies to choose from, but you should carefully use a trusted company.

If you pick a bad company you may face problems with your site like slow to access your site, bad support when you need and many other headaches you must avoid.

BlueHost is the company that I use and recommend for new website owners, this is the best hosting company in my opinion. They have great and fast support when you need it.

Creating your website with BlueHost is very easy and cheap, you can start your first website with a low investment.

>>> CLICK HERE TO GET STARTED <<<

To start your website on Bluehost you’ll need to choose your domain name and fill in some info about you, there’s absolutely no need of advanced skills to get started.

After that, you’ll need to set up your site using WordPress. WordPress is simply the best and most popular platform to create your website.

Click here to access a detailed tutorial to create your website.

What comes next?

Basically, now that you created your blog there are a few more steps until you start making money:

  1. Create useful content for a specific niche.
  2. Get readers (visitors) to your website.
  3. Monetize your website.
  4. Earn money!

Although it takes just a few moments to read the steps above, you’ll not complete all steps overnight.

Much probably you’ll need some time, depending of your efforts.

I don’t want to discourage you, it will take some work to make money with your site. But for a beginner like you, is totally possible to make a few thousands of dollars (or much more) per month with your site.

And if you take it really seriously you can earn A LOT of money online.

Top bloggers make as much as $100,000 per month with their blogs.

Of course, they are exceptions and you’ll hardly earn money like them. But you can expect to earn anywhere from $1,000 up to $20,000 per month.

In the next part of this tutorial, you’ll discover the steps required to make money with your website.

But is useless to continue reading if you still haven’t created your website.

Below you can learn about the 3 big steps to create a successful website that makes money:

1. Choose your Niche and Write Useful Content

After that you created your website, the next step is to write quality and useful content.

Why you’ll need to write content?

The main reason to write content is to attract people and build a loyal audience. This audience that you’ll create has a final purpose to be your customers – people that will buy your products or whatever you’ll do to earn money.

Now that you know why you need to create content, you need to choose your topic or niche that you’ll write about.

There are countless niches or topics that you can write about. But not all of them are profitable.

Below is a list of some of the most profitable niches that you could possibly choose:

  • Finance.
  • Internet marketing or how to make money online.
  • Fitness and health.
  • Self-help and motivation.
  • Dating and relationships.
  • Sports.
  • And many more.

Now it’s super important that you pick a niche that you love and that you have some level of knowledge.

You don’t need to be an expert on your niche, but of course, you won’t succeed if you decided to create a blog about finance if you don’t know anything about it.

2. Get Visitors to your Website (Traffic)

This step is also super important to make money with your website. You need people visiting and reading your website to earn money from it.

Traffic for a website is like the oxygen of your body, you can’t live without it. If your website has not enough traffic, no matter how good your content is, you’ll never make money.

It makes no sense to spend hours writing an epic post if only your mother is going to read it. It’s like having a restaurant on a desert island, no matter how good your food is, nobody is going to pay for it.

There are countless ways and strategies to drive traffic to your website. It’s important to know that not all strategies are going to work well. You need to test what will best work for you.

3. Monetize your Website

There are several ways to make money with your site. Below are the best ways to monetize your blog:

#Selling Advertisement Space

This is the easiest way to monetize your blog or site but is not the most profitable.

It works in this way: you will add a small piece of code on your site from a company like Google AdSense then it will display some ads on your site.

When someone clicks on these ads you make money.

It looks like an easy way to make money, the problem is that the earnings per click are very low. Usually, you get anywhere from 10 cents up to one dollar per click.

The problem with this business formula is that you need huge amounts of people visiting your website or blog to make a lot of money.

If for some reason you get successful driving a huge amount of people visiting and reading your website, then the advertisement formula will be a good idea, otherwise, there’s a better and much more profitable way to make a living online as you’ll learn below.

#Selling Your Own Digital Products or Services

Selling your own digital products or services online is by far the most profitable way to monetize your blog or site.

Unlike affiliate programs where you put efforts to market a product and earn a commission of a maximum of 75%, by selling your own products or services you stay with 100% of the profits.

For example, if you have a website that talks about how to lose weight you could create an online course or ebook about the best diets or exercises for people (your readers) willing to lose weight.

But there are some disadvantages:

  • You’ll have to deal with customer support.
  • It’s your responsibility to create content, research, development, etc.
  • Extra headaches when you get problems (site down, hosting problems).
  • Etc, etc.

As you can see selling your own products or services is the most profitable way to monetize your blog or website, but the greater rewards come with extra responsibility.

Selling your own products is only recommended for experts and bloggers with a lot of knowledge, it’s not recommended for beginners.

So in the end for beginners like you, I won’t recommend creating our own products to sell. At least until you don’t have enough experience and knowledge.

#The Affiliate Model – The Best Way to Monetize your Blog

This is simply one of the best ways to monetize your blog or site:

But first of all, what is the affiliate model?

This model works in this way: you’ll simply recommend a product or service for someone and if this person makes a purchase you get a nice commission.

Using the affiliate model you have all the advantages of creating your own product with profitable margins and you don’t have the disadvantages of creating your own product.

Some great advantages of this business model:

  • It’s cheap and fast to get started.
  • It’s very scalable, you can start making $1,000 on your first month, $2,000 on the second month, and so on.
  • There’s no need to invest a lot of money to create the product, only to promote it.

#Monetize your Blog offering Coaching

Again, coaching is not recommended for beginners, but if you an expert with a lot of expertise in a specific niche, as soon as you start building some audience you can start selling your own coaching services.

The best part of coaching services is that unlike selling courses or ebooks, you have almost zero headaches because basically, all you need to do is a 1 on 1 conversation with your clients.

You’ll be selling your time, expertise, and knowledge directly from your mouth (or words from your keyboard).

Without a doubt, coaching is one of the best and most profitable ways to monetize a blog. But it will only work if you build a big audience that really trusts you and if you have real expertise.

Some coaches are charging $150 to $500 per hour, if you get at this point someday, you can make a lot of money.

Final Words…

For each of these steps to make money with a blog, there are many other things you should learn.

But can I give the best advice if you are a beginner?

Don’t waste too much time learning before you can finally decide to start your website or blog. Start it as soon as possible and every day put some effort while you’ll learn from your mistakes.

That’s it for now. More tutorials are coming in the future.

If you have some doubt about starting your website click on the “Contact” link on the top of this page and I’ll personally answer you.

Conclusion

This is not a big list with the dozens of “great” WordPress plugins that I recommend.

As said at the beginning, the best WordPress plugins will depend on the type of site you are running.

The fact is that the majority of plugins that you see there being recommended are really not essential to have a safe and successful WordPress site.

This is the reason why the list above has “only” ten recommended plugins.

Learn how to easily create a website in under 30 minutes

Do you want to create a website, but you don’t know how to start?

Don’t worry! This is a step-by-step guide that will show you how to easily create your first website even if you are a complete newbie.

Also, I included, in the end, some useful guides that will help you to make your website successful and profitable.

This guide is divided into 5 simple steps:

#1 – Choosing your website platform

#2 – Getting your Website online

#3 – Configuring and Tweaking your Website

#4 – Creating Blog Posts and Pages

#5 – Making your website successful

Let’s get started…

#1: Choosing your Website Platform (WordPress)

The first step is to choose your website platform. There are many options to choose from.

However, WordPress is simply the best and most popular platform to create a website. Here are a few reasons:

  • It’s free, you don’t need to pay a single dollar to use it and there are literally thousands of free plugins and templates that you can install;
  • It’s very easy to use, even people with no computer skills can understand how WordPress works;
  • It’s very customizable. WordPress has huge potential to create anything you want, you can create a blog, a simple or professional website for your local business, sales pages, membership sites, anything you could imagine. Plus there are thousands of plugins that will add new features or improve your website in any aspect.

Now that you know how fantastic WordPress is, let’s move to the next step.

2: Finding a Domain Name and a Web Hosting Provider

This is the most exciting and important part. To get your website running you’ll need 2 things:

A domain name: This will be your website address where people will find you. Your domain name will be something like “www.mywebsitename.com”. The cost of a domain name is pretty cheap, around $10 per year.

A web hosting: You’ll need to pay a small fee for a company that will host your website. They have countless computers that will store and keep safe all your content and images of your site. The cost of good web hosting is only $5-10 per month.

It’s cheaper than a coffee at Starbucks, so it won’t break you.

Where Should you get your Domain Name and Web Hosting?

It’s important that you choose the right web hosting because you need your site loading as fast as possible and working with no problem in at least 99.8% of the time.

It’s also very important that you choose one with great customer support because you don’t want to wait 48 hours for a response if you have any problem.

There are hundreds of web hosting providers, most of them with similar prices.

I have used different web hosting providers in the last years, some with good services and others not.

But now I only use and recommend www.bluehost.com for domain names and web hosting

BlueHost provides amazing support when I need it and very reliable service, I never had problems with them.

#2: Getting your Website Online

Now at this part, we’ll start installing your website and until the end of this tutorial, your website will be fully working and available online for your upcoming visitors.

1. Go to www.bluehost.com and then click “Get Started Now!”

Then you’ll be redirected on a page to select your plan:

As you are just starting, I recommend that you go to the cheapest plan, so choose the “basic” plan and click the “select” button.

Pick a Good Domain Name for Your Website

Do you already have a domain name? If so, just write it in the right box – “Use a domain you own, otherwise just write your desired domain name in the left box.

How to choose a good domain name?

It’s very important that you pick a good domain name. Below are some essential tips to follow when choosing the right domain name for your website:

  • It must be easy to remember: Never choose a name that is too long, hard to spell, or remember. Always try to pick a domain name that is 2 or 3 words long and avoid hyphens or numbers.
  • Make it unique and memorable: If you register a non-sense domain name that is hard to remember, it’s much probably that people will not visit your website more than once. You need a name that will reflect what your site is about, so make it memorable and you’ll get attention from your visitors.
  • Your extension should be trustworthy: the most popular and trusted extensions are .com Avoid registering domain extensions ending in .biz, .info, or any other. If the domain name you want ending with .com is not available consider using .net or .org

Now that you found your desired domain name, type it in the box, then click “next”. If the name you want is not available, choose another one.

Fill In Your Account Information

Here’s where you fill in your account info. You need to pay your hosting provider in a monthly period; however it’s very cheap, so you got nothing to worry about.

Choose your package and addons (if you want)

On this page, you can choose your package. For example, if you choose 24 or 36 months you’ll have a discount. But it’s fine if you want to stick with the 12 months option.

About the “Package Extras” like Domain Privacy Protection, SiteLock Security, Codeguard Basic, and all others, they are not so important, it’s up to you. But if you want to save money, you can uncheck all of them.

Create Your Password

Now you need to create your password. It’s super important that you create a strong password that contains lowercase letters, uppercase letters, and a number. And make sure it’s at least 6 or 8 characters.

Once you created your password, your account is done and you can log in:

Log in to your newly BlueHost Account and Quickly Create Your WordPress Site

And “What’s your site’s tagline?” Just write a description of your blog. All these settings can be changed later.

After this, only click on the “Do you want a blog?” option.

Then, you’ll be redirected to a page, asking for a little information about your blog:

Once you do that, you’ll be redirected to another page asking you to choose your theme – this is the appearance of your blog, choose one that you like. You can change your theme later if you want.

As soon that you completed the steps above you’ll receive an email that contains your login information. This info is important to keep it safe. You’ll need it every time you want to log in to your WordPress site.

WordPress makes really easy to customize your site and install new features.

I also want to remember you that if you forget how to log in to the WordPress site you can log in by going to “www.yoursitename.com/wp-admin”

How to Change your Website Design

WordPress makes it very easy to change your whole site appearance – what you only need to do is install a new WordPress theme.

There are hundreds of free themes that you can download and install on your WordPress website.

However, if you want to make your site successful I really recommend that you buy a premium template. Why?

Although you can find many good themes for free, you’ll hardly find a free one with many great features.

If you plan to get a premium WordPress template, I really recommend that you go to MyThemeShop.com and buy one there.

Here’s how to Install a new and Free WordPress Template

Go to “Appearance” and click on “Themes”.

You’ll see a few templates that already come installed with WordPress. You can choose one of them or install a new one.

If you don’t like these default WordPress templates click on the “Add New” button.

On this screen, you’ll see tabs where you can choose between featured, popular, or fresh new themes, “Feature Filter” and a search option.

If you would like to install a theme with specific schemes or colors you can use the “Feature Filter” option.

As soon as you find the perfect theme for your WordPress site, click “Install” bottom. WordPress will automatically download and install your desired theme.

Now you only need to click on “Activate” and you are done, a new theme installed and working.

How to Add new Features using Plugins

WordPress comes in “the box” with most of the basic and essential features to your website or blog. But you can install extra modules called “Plugins”.

There are thousands of free and paid plugins that you can add to your WordPress site.

Plugins can do all sort of things, like:

  • Kill comment spam
  • Make your website SEO friendly
  • Transform your website into anything you can imagine
  • Add countless functions

There are almost infinite things you can do with WordPress plugins.

But be careful before installing any plugin, it’s always a good idea to read reviews about the plugin you want to install. Some plugins can cause problems with security or make your website slow.

Installing new plugins is very easy. Go to “Plugins”, then click “Add New”.

On the next screen, you can search by keyword or by “featured, popular and recommended”.

Once you found a plugin you like, just click “Install Now” and then click “Activate Plugin”

#4: Creating Blog Posts and Pages

By now you already have a nice theme installed as well as some essential plugins.

In this last step, you’ll learn how to create your pages and posts.

How to add a new post

To create a new post, click on the “Posts” tab then “Add New”.

On the field at the top, you can add your post title and your text goes in the big box.

If you save it as a draft your post will not be published (obvious), after your content is ok to go live, just press “Publish”.

You can check all your published posts in the “All Posts” from the “Posts” tab. Even after you published your posts, you can edit again as many times as you need.

Using the WordPress interface is so easy, if you already used Microsoft Word, everything will look super simple and familiar.

To add an image, for example, you just need to click on “Add Media” and on the next screen, you can select images or upload new ones.

Everything is self-explanatory when writing blog posts:

  • You can edit your fonts using “B” for bolding
  • “I” for italics
  • “U” to underline tests
  • “A” you can select the font color

Adding new Pages

Adding new pages is the same process of creating posts:

Go to the “Pages” tab then click “Add New.

You only need to enter your title’s page and content inside the big box like creating blog posts.
